Annabel at Nine Months
Annabel is nine months old today. That’s really hard for me to believe! When she was a newborn, I would hear about and see pictures of nine month old babies and marvel at how big they were, thinking it would be forever before Annabel was that age. But as everything in babyhood does, it all went by in the blink of an eye. And now here we are, parents of a nine month old little firecracker!
It’s crazy to think that in nine short months, she’s gone from this little lump of baby:
to this crawling, smiling, babbling little person:
This post is more for me and Nathan than anyone else, but I wanted to do a little update on what Annabel is up to these days. A little snapshot of her as a nine month old, because I know that in no time, she’ll be one and for some reason, nine months feels like a big milestone. Her baby-ness feels like it’s fading fast, so I needed a way to grasp on to it in the only way that I know how.
So here are her stats:
Eating: I’m still making all of Annabel’s food and she continues to do great with it. She’s still eating primarily purees, but we’ve also tried letting her suck/chew on pieces of pineapple and watermelon. So far she has eaten: sweet potato, acorn squash, butternut squash, peas, green beans, lima beans, avocado, asparagus, banana, apples, mango, pears, blueberries, peaches, watermelon, pineapple, brown rice, ground flaxseeds, oatmeal, cottage cheese, quinoa and yogurt. I’m not really sure that I could even pick a “favorite” at this point because she seems to pretty much like everything equally. With the exception of oatmeal. Hated that, but seems to be getting used to it.
Sleeping: Annabel is still a totally unpredictable and frustrating napper. She pretty consistently has two naps a day these days, one in the morning (about 2-3 hours after waking) and another in the afternoon. But she pretty much fights every single one of them. She goes to bed between 7 and 7:30pm and usually wakes up around 6-6:30am. She doesn’t wake in the middle of the night (unless she’s sick), but has to be nursed/rocked to sleep. We are currently working to break this habit because right now it means that I’m the only one who can put her to bed and that just isn’t working!
Mobility: The girl is all over the place! She’s been crawling since around 6.5 months and began pulling up on furniture right around the same time. She now pulls up on absolutely everything, including walls and doors and has gotten much more comfortable walking around the coffee table and going between the coffee table and couch. If I had to guess, I’d say she’ll be walking this month, but I could be totally wrong on that. It wouldn’t be the first time. (Or the last)
Likes: “ringing” the wind chime on the back patio, chasing the cat, Daddy,
clapping, playing with things that aren’t baby toys (i.e. magazines, telephones, boxes, water bottles),
playing in the water (either bath or pool), ripping up tissues or paper, stroller rides, exploring everything!
Dislikes: having her diaper changed, getting dressed, strangers, long car rides, any car ride when she’s tired or it’s dark outside, taking naps, taking medicine.
Personality: Her personality gets bigger and more apparent everyday! She is a happy and very vocal little girl who definitely knows how to make her desires known. She will let you know that she doesn’t like something by throwing her head back and crying in dramatic fashion. She is extremely determined and also very methodical and deliberate with her movements. I’ve never seen a baby concentrate so hard and move so slowly to lower themselves from a standing position. She is so
nosy curious about everything. She always wants to know what’s going on and when she hears a noise, she has to identify the source as quickly as possible. I can already tell that she got her daddy’s brains, and that my friends is a very good thing!
Size: She’s still pretty small, wearing mostly 6 month size clothes. I think that’s technically supposed to be 3-6 months. She can wear some 6-9 month stuff, but a lot of it is still too big on her little frame. She’s still in size 2 diapers, but I’m thinking that won’t be too much longer. Maybe another month or two.
Teeth: Two on the bottom and four on the top. I think she’s getting more right now, but she won’t let me get in her mouth to get a good look, so I’m basing this assumption on the crazy amounts of drool, endless desire to chew on everything (including my shoulder!), and general fussiness.
Talking: No real distinctive words yet, but lots of babbling! She says “dada” a lot, but I don’t think she associates it with Nathan yet. She has a “word” that she says every time she sees the cat, but it doesn’t resemble the word “cat” at all.
Nicknames: ABK (for Annabel Kate), The Bel, Nugget (Nathan’s creation)…which morphed into Nuggey. I’ll also sometimes call her Lovebug, Babycakes, Banana-Bel, or BabyBel. She definitely seems to know her name though and turns around whenever you say it!
Overall assessment: Light and love of her parents’ lives. Even when she refuses to nap.
