9 Months On, 9 Months Off: A Postpartum Update
I heard the phrase “9 months on, 9 months off” (in relation to pregnancy weight) for the first time when I was still pregnant. I loved the sound of it, and while I was secretly hoping to lose all of the weight long before that, I still left it as my ultimate goal.
So, in honor of Annabel’s nine month birthday, and therefore the nine month anniversary of me giving birth, I thought it might be appropriate to do a postpartum update of sorts. Really I just thought it would be fun to update this post, when I took pictures in my “normal” clothes at 8 months pregnant. Remember that?
But before I get to the pictures, here’s the rundown:
On the day that I gave birth, I weighed 32 pounds more than on the day of my first prenatal doctor’s appointment. When I went back for my postpartum check up (when Annabel was 7 weeks old) I was still hanging on to 10 of those pounds. I knew that losing the last 10 would take much longer than the first 20, so I didn’t want to put any pressure on myself.
And I didn’t.
In fact, I don’t even own a scale at my house, so I have no idea when I officially lost all of the “baby weight.” I didn’t weigh myself again until Christmas when we were at Nathan’s parents’ house for the holidays. I was shocked and happy to see that I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight at that time. Not shocked because it was any real feat- I’ve known women to lose the weight much faster- but shocked because I figured it would take me longer.
Since that time, I’ve weighed myself periodically when we’ve been over there, and as of last weekend, I’m about 10 pounds lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight. There’s only one down side to that. I seem to have lost what little of a butt that I had. That’s right, no junk in this trunk.
Without further ado, here are some updated pictures wearing the same shirts from this post:
(Please excuse the poor quality of the photos. The lighting was terrible!)
This was the third outfit down in the previous post. Here you can see exactly what I’m talking about in reference to the butt.
I mean, really. Where did it go?!
And then there is this shirt:
You may notice that I’m not wearing the same denim skirt as before. That’s because I got rid of it after posting that other picture. Now I kind of wish I hadn’t.
And now, in the interest of full disclosure, here is the full belly, just like before only not quite:
Why yes I did suck in for that picture, thanks for asking! So not exactly full disclosure, huh? I carry my weight in my belly, okay?
At any rate, I think it’s looking much better than when I took the picture for this post!
{Funny side note about that picture: After I took that picture, I asked Nathan how many weeks pregnant he thought I was in it. His response? “Hmm, maybe 20 weeks? Wait, was that after she was born? Crap!” Not fair, Adrianne, trick question!}
And that my friends is my postpartum update. Progress has been made, and for the most part I feel pretty okay about the state of my post-baby body, but there’s still a ton I’d like to do in the way of toning. I’m pretty sure that requires working out though, and I haven’t done any of that. But there are about to be some pretty major lifestyle changes in our house (more on that later!) that I hope will allow me more time for that very soon!

way to go mommio – now I can reclaim the title of biggest hairiest belly in the house.
Just to be clear: my belly was NEVER in the running for hairiest in the house! And unless you decide to opt for laser hair removal, it never will be. You own the rights to that one.
