Hello, World!

To make a long story (semi) short:

Saturday night I was having bad contractions and pain. We went to the hospital around midnight, but ended up being discharged at around 4am because I wasn’t progressing in labor. The nurse said she thought I’d be back in 8-48 hours. Sunday I continued to have lots of excruciating contractions all day. By 7pm we decided we should head back to the hospital since they were consistent and getting closer together. On the way there, they almost stopped completely. I was convinced they would send us home again.

They didn’t. They gave me some pitocin to keep the contractions coming, and by the time I was 5 cm, I decided I had to have the epidural. Great decision. At 3:30am they said it was just about time to start pushing and they’d be back. I started pushing at 4:30am and she was born at 7:29am on Monday, i.e. Labor Day. Appropriate no? Three LONG hours of pushing. But that’s a long story that I will save for another day (maybe).

But for now, I’d just like to introduce you to my daughter, Annabel Kate:

Jessica guessed her name, and almost immediately! I have no idea how she did that, but she wins the gift card and the pride of knowing she’s a genius!

Annabel is, in a word, amazing. All of the cliche things you’ve ever heard about having a baby are absolutely true. I’m completely blown away by how much I love this little person for no other reason than she exists. I could go on and on and someday I probably will (just to warn you now), but for today, I’ll just leave you with more pictures of the girl who has completely stolen my heart forever….

My two favorites

P.S. She has dimples. And long eye lashes. Does it get any better than dimples and long eye lashes?
