Say hello to Pippa!
She’s the newest bear in our collection. Well, really she’s for the baby. Given my penchant for teddy bears, I figured she should have one that her mom and dad made before she was born, that will hopefully always be special to her. And that’s where Pippa comes in. Isn’t she cute?
We had her made at the Build-a-Bear workshop today. On the way I remembered that they make you name the bear, so we were discussing names in the car on the way there. Robin Sparkles was a top contender. If you don’t watch How I Met Your Mother, then that name means nothing to you. But if you do watch it, you’ll agree that that would have been a pretty sweet name for a baby’s teddy bear!
But then, remembering Nathan’s love for the name Pippa, I threw that out there and the discussion was over, thus solving two things at once. Obviously the first being that the bear would have a name. The second? That any future daughters we may have would not be named Pippa.
Not that there’s anything wrong with the name Pippa. It’s cute and spunky and fun. But I couldn’t actually use it because everyone would assume she was named after THE Pippa, as in Pippa Middleton. You see, a few months back, after we knew the baby was a girl, and after we had picked a name, I began to second guess myself. So I started throwing other names out there to see if Nathan would bite. He wouldn’t. We had named her, and that was it in his mind!
That is until I got a People magazine in the mail that read “All about PIPPA!” Nathan couldn’t stop saying the name…you have to admit it’s fun to say! He even went so far as to suggest it for our daughter, and called her that a few times. That’s when I did some back pedaling and reminded him that we already had a name picked out. He said we could use Pippa next time if we had another girl.
So yes, I was being intentionally sneaky, knowing that if the bear was named Pippa, it would take the name out of the discussion in the future.
At least I thought I was being clever. Until Nathan pointed out that if I was really smart, I would have suggested the name Cooper for the bear, thus removing it from future name discussions. See that was the ONLY boy name that Nathan would consider. And I was opposed because it rhymes with pooper and it doesn’t sound good with our last name. Dang it! Missed opportunity. Nathan is always outsmarting me…..
However I’m thinking we might need a new puppy. And that puppy should be named Cooper!

I’m sorry, Adrianne, I’m going to side with Nathan on this one. I actually think both Pippa and Cooper are cute names
. But Cooper would be a pretty cute little puppy, too!
I don’t disagree! I think they’re cute; I just can’t use them. Pippa because of the very strong association and Cooper because I hate the way it seems sing-songy with our last name…both two syllables, ending in “er.” But they are cute and Cooper definitely grew on me. It’s what we called the baby the whole time before we knew that she was a she:)
Definitely should have gone with Robin Sparkles! I love that show, and it just makes me want to move to NYC even more! I kinda like the name Pippa actually, I agree that it’s spunky, but it’s definitely all about Pippa Middleton now
Ha, yes, Robin Sparkles would have been great as well! Especially when I think about her learning to talk and trying to say that mouthful. We may just have to get Pippa a little sister named Robin Sparkles:)
